On the 23rd of January, three men armed with guns decided to “visit” Canadian Bitcoin exchange offices in Ottawa. Maybe they thought, that Bitcoins do really look like gold coins, as they are depicted on all illustrations. All jokes apart, they restrained four employees and ordered to make a transaction from the cryptocurrency exchange. One of the employees was injured.
Fortunately, the fifth employee was unseen by the robbers and managed to call the police. The armed visitors left empty-handed.
One of the suspects was arrested later on Wednesday. He turned out to be as 19-year-old Jimmy St-Hilaire and he was charged with 9 offences.
“Police are looking for two additional suspects, both described as black males,” the police says. “Investigators are also interested in identifying and speaking to a person of interest that was inside the premise as the suspects arrived. That person did not remain at the scene.”
