Buying food for hungry children in Venezuela seems like a noble endeavour. But Reddit users found such a charity pretty suspicious and turned out to be right. It turned out to be a scam, which had been collecting cryptocurrency for poor Venezuelan children.
It all started with a fake photo of the children, which was of a very poor quality and appeared to be a flipped version of the original picture taken by the real non-profit organization, which was truly providing humanitarian support to children, requiring medicines and food.
But a fake image was nothing in comparison to the Bitcoin address posted. This address lead nowhere else but to the online casino. The author of the campaign was trying to justify that the casino was a security matter, to avoid regulation and taxes in Venezuela.
Users managed to donate around 0.064 BTC or $600 at current prices, which, unfortunately, went to pay off the author’s of the campaign gambling debts.
