The police of Iceland reported about a series of robberies, largest in this country, as a result of which about 600 farms for mining bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies had been stolen. The cost of damage is estimated almost at $2 million.
During the investigation of an incident, 11 people, one of whom worked as the security guard, were arrested. On Friday, the district court of Reykjanes considered a measure of restraint the detainee, having left two people under arrest.
Four cases of plunder of farms have been in total recorded. Three of them happened in December of the last year, another – in January 2018, however for more effective investigation and capture of criminals the police didn’t let the information go public.
Nevertheless, the stolen iron hasn’t been found yet, and at the moment the police are tracing areas with high consumption of energy.
Iceland has data-centers of a number of the mining companies, including such famous player as Genesis Mining. Many of them keep their locations a secret.
