The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde said that the fund tries to interfere with use of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for money laundering and financing of terrorism.
“We had a regulation of the organizations over the last ten years after financial crisis, but now we need precisely to move towards regulation of [cryptocurrency] operations.”

According to her, cryptocurrencies have many “dark” moments therefore the IMF actively tries to prevent their use for money laundering or financing of terrorism.
Also Christine Lagarde added that regulators need to focus on the people who carriy out transactions, their control and also on presence at operators of necessary licenses.
Earlier this year the similar statement was made by the press secretary of the IMF, Gary Price.
During the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Christine Lagarde called mining “the evil for energy”.
